From the bean of Green Bean.
I give a knit.
No really, I do.
No TJ Maxx slippers
Or Walmart gift card for you.
Things are quite different
Under my tree
An assortment you'll find
All hand made by me.
For my son,
For my parents,
Hot cocoa to share.
Stockings hang heavy
With tiny owls felted,
With gingerbread men
Friends and teachers find
Granola and jam by the jar.
Bought local, made here.
Not shipped from afar.
I thought of my loved ones
Through cool nights of fall
Knitting and stitching,
Creating for all.
Many look to sales
And call Friday black
Pushing through crowds
To fill Santa's sack.
Not here. Oh no, no.
Not any more.
This season, I give a knit
And, oh, so much more.
Please come back on December 10th as The Green Phone Booth hosts the Green Moms Carnival. The topic is Greener Traditions.

What a beautiful poem, it should be everyone's Christmas mantra!
Bravo!
Great poem!
I love it! I wish we were having a handmade Christmas, still picking my battles, but I am sure someday it will come time to wage that war. I applaud you.
Ha! What a wonderful poem and a wonderful sentiment. Your recipients are lucky, too!
Awesome! I have to learn to knit...
Holy knit! That's amazing. I would love to see your stocking jumble come alive for your kids. ...and to all a good 'site!
This is AWESOME. (I can't knit either :-) I love this post! (And I'm totally going to try the crayon thing...)
Great poem! I love it.
"I give a knit" is the best poem ive read recently. OMGoodness you crack me up. Not only is it a great poem but its inspired me. This year will be a hand made one for my family as well and you have given me some great idea's. Thanks and keep them coming!
You are so clever! Love the gifts!
Great poem! I'm doing more handmade or hand altered this year. My recent project is that I got a free desk and refinished it Dora-style for my niece. We have a workshop and hubby wants to make each other gifts for Christmas :-) I'm still trying to figure out something for our parents - they fit in the babyboomer-super-consumer category, so they're tough. I made them a couple gift-in-a-jar last year and they haven't touched them yet. Any ideas?
Adorable.
Love the teddy bear!
Awesome poem! :)
Love it!
Great poem! You have motivated me to get out the old knitting needles.
I used to knit up a storm. Somehow, the blogging got me addicted to sitting at the computer for hours instead. I'll have to get out the knitting needles again soon. It's very meditative.
This year almost everyone is getting at least one handmade from me this year. Even though I started early I am one tired Elf! :) My mother in law has knitting covered. I'm sticking with what I do best - sewing.
I loved the teddy bear you made. Oh, to be talented with a pair of knitting needles!
What a talent!! Writing poems and creating handmade...I'm mighty impressed!
I love it! I wish I could have gotten around to making more of our gifts. I'm hoping to make things all year this time. I did get a few things made so there will be some homemade gifts and almost everything that was bought came from Etsy.com so it was handmade by someone, just not me hehe. P.S. LOVE the bear.
