The House That Craig Built

An ode to second hand from Green Bean.

This is the house that Craig built!
This is the table for games, puzzles and homework
That lay in the house that Craig built.

These are the chairs, sturdy and stable
That are nestled under the table
For games, puzzles and homework
That lay in the house that Craig built.

This is the desk where bills do lurk
That sits across from the chairs and table
For games, puzzles and homework
That lay in the house that Craig built.

This is the couch
Where children slouch
In a room away from the desk, chairs and table
That lay in the house that Craig built.

These are the tables for snacks
When mommy is feeling quite lax
Laying on the couch, where children often slouch
In a room away from the desk, chairs and table
That lay in the house that Craig built.

And this is the loft bed
Cheery and red
Away from the tables and couch
And the room with the desk, chairs and table
That lay in the house that Craig built.

This is the keyboard
Where knowledge is fed
Across from the bed, cheery and red
Away from the tables and couch
And the room with the desk, chairs and table
That lay in the house that Craig built.

And this is the being
Whose budget was lean
And who sought to be green
By furnishing a house
With what others had thrown out
And now lives happily in the house that Craig(slist) built.

These are just a few of my favorite new-to-me purchases. I have many more but ran out of rhymes. :) Happy treasure hunting on Craigslist, in antique and thrift stores, at garage and estate sales, and from friends and family.

It's amazing that folks are "getting rid of" such good furniture (among other things). But....one man's trash can be our treasure ;)
Like your furniture, almost all of mine is pre-loved.

(I love the poem, too!)

We just discovered the indoor flea market close to where we live and found some amazing treasures.

Love the poem :).

Love this post! And Craigslist, my house is much the same. Although, I am totally envious of the table...I have had my out for one like that for over a year now.

Great scores! Sadly Toronto is too full of bedbugs these days to risk taking anyone else's cast offs. It's epidemic here and many people don't even know they have them so unintentionally pass them on.

Awesome!

Someday my office will be clean and I will post a pic of the really excellent desk I got off the curb.

@4Bushels - So true. That is what makes garage sales and such such a score! You never know what someone else's trash is.

@Wendy - Sweet! Love finding new places for second hand.

@Willow - Yes, I was very very happy with that table. Can I brag that it came with 4 chairs (2 of the ones pictures) for only $80 and was listed in my own city!

@CallieK - Ack! Bedbugs are my biggest fear in buying 2nd hand. I cannot believe your city has been bitten.

@Rosa - Notice that my desk is a secretary? ;-) The mess is all inside.

@Gretchen and SustainaMom- Thank you!
