I feel like we've lost all the great women, like it was a thing of the past of have character and honor. I know a few women that I truly admire, but it seems like most women I know are so selfish and they're only looking out for themselves. They spend their time focusing on fashion, looks or their jobs but never on making themselves a better person. I guess I should be happy that I grew up with a few good examples and that there were women like Eleanor that came before us.

Thank you for this post. I agree she is a superhero and a woman to deeply respect. I love Eleanor Roosevelt and actually named my daughter Eleanor. She was an amazing woman.

Eleanor Roosevelt was quite inspiring. What a tough road to hoe though, she had. And made the best of it.

Why are war protestors considered unpatriotic? And how did the flag come to be the provence of just the Republicans? Now I come from a mixed family so I can't demonize either camp, but it seems utterly horrifying to me how things have been staked out.

Since the costs of food are going up and the job losses mounting, it would be a very good time to revive the victory garden movement. What better way to help people feel empowered then teaching them how to grow their own food and reduce their grocery bill. What a strong message too to send to the troops, so many who have been stop-lossed, that we at home are starting to do our part, starting to ACT and not just put magnetic ribbons on our cars. What is it going to take for us to bring them home? Lets figure it out and DO IT!

Wow. Eleanor has been my hero(ine) since I was in college. The best present my husband ever gave me was an autographed copy of This I Remember. So great to be reminded of her and all she was and stood for.

Nice post. I have often thought starting the concept of victory gardens back up for our current wars would be a) a way to counteract the idea that Democrats or anti-war protestors can't be patriotic and b) a direct action against the Iraq war, since an average of 85% of the cost of our food goes to shipping it--i.e., oil, i.e., the reason we're in Iraq in the first plae.
