It&amp;#39;s tag line is &amp;quot;How to Buy, Store, and Prepare Every Variety of Fresh Food.&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A new acquisition is &amp;quot;The Flexitarian Diet,&amp;quot; Dawn does a great job of introducing both grains and beans and about half of the book is recipes. But if I need a basic starting point, like how to roast a chicken, I&amp;#39;ll turn to BH&amp;amp;G cookbook. It was my first cookbook in college, and my mother in law gave me a tattered one from the 60s she picked up at a garage sale. Between the two of them, I can find most substitutions or basics I need. They both also have a copy of their dad&amp;#39;s favorite bread cook book:  The Tassajara bread book:)&lt;br /&gt;I love my vegan japanese cookbook: Japanese cooking Contemporary and Traditional:  Simple, Delicious and Vegan by Miyoko Nishimoto Schinner.  I like How the World Vegan and Garden of Vegan.&lt;br /&gt;Don&amp;#39;t use it much now but Pita the Great by Virginia T. We don&amp;#39;t cook veggies around here (except from a can) and I&amp;#39;m not big on meat. I love that book and it&amp;#39;s filled with recipes that she used along with her favourites from the community. The three I could not live without, though, were:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Alice Waters: The Art of Simple Food (I love this book -- it is more instruction on how to cook than a bunch of recipes)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;More-With-Less Cookbook (an old Mennonite cookbook, beloved by many)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The $1.98 Cookbook by Carl Japiske (I bet no one&amp;#39;s even heard of this one, but it includes recipes on how to make from-scratch anything. We just got a crock pot and this cook book has produced some incredible stuff.
