Bitten by Zombies

A suburban greenmom feels a glimmer of hope for the future...

I could probably go all literary and ironic and analyze the methodology of using "zombie" imagery (dead-but-still-moving, decaying, inexorable slide into chaos and primordial violence) to explicate and satirize the crucial watershed moment in which we as an increasingly global society find ourselves vis a vis climate change and the sustainability imperative...

But instead I'll just say...this gives me hope. (No, really. Watch the video and then hear me out. And huge thanks to EnviroMom for the link.)

I can't help comparing this in my mind to the very earnest and passionate hand-wringing howling into the darkness a lot of us bloggers do (by which I mean me, no reflection on my wonderful colleagues and fellow bloggers)...sometimes I wonder if anyone but other like-minded blogger-types are even listening and hearing. But this video was made by teenagers. High school students. Who've crafted a little mini-movie in the language of teens to make a very simple and straightforward point and deliver a clear message: guys, we have new toilets that will save water, because it's kind of important, and here's how you use them, it's incredibly easy, and check out the funny zombies. So simple. But so effective.

I spend a lot of sleepless nights and early mornings wondering what kind of world I will leave to my children. And then, when I see things like this, I begin to wonder if they, not we, are the ones who will create a better one.

Very coo;l that the PPS system is converting, nut I have to wonder why they didn't go with waterless urinals. Our little city installed 1 in the library city hall public mens room and there is always a line to use it. Line too long? go use the dual flush toilet. At least thwy didn't use my suggestion of peeing in the spray park fountain.
